Cretaceous Period Fossils

Have you ever sifted for gold or are you good at scavenger hunts? Well, if either of these interest you, a fossil hunt might be right up your alley. It doesn’t take long for your eyes to learn that unique curve of a bivalve protocardia, or the signature spiral that is characteristic of gastropods.

As you can imagine, both time and weather can have a dramatic impact on the size and quality of the fossils. We have several locations on our property that present an ideal locale to find fossils with regularity: essentially these were lowest lying areas when the primitive waters fully receded and where these creatures moved to given these were the last refuges of water before it was all gone.  No digging necessary - just a careful and patient eye is needed.
